Every day, millions of people use Cox Internet to connect through video chat. But for people on the autism spectrum, this connection is difficult, if not impossible. That’s because many have a hard time reading non-verbal cues, like facial expressions and tone of voice, which are key to connecting with people on a deeper level. In response, we created Project Convey, a video chat prototype that helps people on the spectrum better understand and connect with the person on the other side of the screen. Using AI, the prototype analyzes three data inputs: facial expressions, speech, and tone of voice, and in real-time, translates the emotion into an emoji. We then created a film documenting 4 people’s experiences using the tech.
